Persistent occiput posterior position is defined by the fetal head being in a posterior position during the second stage of labor, whatever the mode of delivery.1 The incidence of delivery in the occiput posterior position varies from 5% to 12%.2-4 For several decades, it has been acknowledged that delivery in the posterior position is associated with an increased rate of operative delivery.2-7 Various methods were proposed to facilitate rotation from occiput posterior to occiput anterior during labor to reduce the rate of operative delivery.

ocipucio, oxipucio, nuca
Occipucio no debe confundirse con la región de la nuca, la parte superior de la nuca termina en donde inicia el occipucio. Puede verse también "ócciput", latinismo innecesario.
